In observance of National Recovery Month, Meridian will be hosting their inaugural Race to Recovery, 5K. National Recovery Month is an annual observance held each September in an effort to educate Americans on the importance of providing substance use treatment and mental health services to those in need.
Recent statistics show the repercussions of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drug use generate a cost of 740 billion dollars annually in the United States. In 2013, an even more alarming statistic ranked Florida as the state with the 11th highest drug overdose mortality rate in the United States. The goal of the Race to Recovery is to generate proceeds needed to provide treatment within the addiction and recovery programs at Meridian.
The race will originate and travel through Meridian's Gainesville campus and then north on 441 with a return loop back to Meridian. The race will be chipped timed to provide the most accurate timed results.
Join us in the Race to Recovery and help pave the road to recovery for those in need!
